The Hoffman’s group investigates the physico-chemical properties of single crystal and polycrystalline diamond surfaces by various electron spectroscopic and scanning probe microscopic methods.  Also in the group we investigate the formation – including nucleation and growth-  of synthetic diamond films by chemical vapor deposition methods using  a hydrogen and hydrocarbon gas mixture.”


The Alexandrowicz group, studies “ultra fast dynamics on surfaces”.
Atoms and molecule adsorbed on a surface constantly interact with their environment and are constantly moving on a very fast (pico to
nano-second) time scale, processes which are too fast to study using conventional methodologies. The group develops and uses new atomic and molecular beam techniques to study these complex nano-scale processes.
