Title: Single Atom Skeletal Editing
Abstract: Reactions that alter the connectivity of molecular skeletons have not been widely explored in synthesis and late-stage functionalization, largely due to their often nonintuitive retrosynthetic logic.1 This literature seminar will explore the concept of single atom skeletal editing, highlighting key transformations reported in the literature that enable single-atom changes through the insertion, deletion, and exchange of atoms such as carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen.2-6 These studies use various reactive species and synthetic methods, focusing on creative reagent design and photochemistry. The seminar will discuss applications in the synthesis and diversification of complex, pharmaceutically relevant compounds, illustrating unique synthetic opportunities and mechanistic insights provided by these groundbreaking studies.
