Abstract: Polyborylated derivatives (I), including the gem-diboryl species, are
known as an emerging class with good potential for novel synthetic applications.1-2
The special properties and structures of polynucleophile polyboryl compounds
(termed organo-polymetallics) have attracted increasing attention from synthetic
chemists, particularly in constructing C–C/ C–heteroatom bonds.1-2 In recent years,
our research group has adopted the polyborylalkene species as coupling partners in
synthetic chemistry through novel transformations (Figure 1). Moreover, we have
demonstrated that our methods can serve as an endpoint late-stage diversification
and as a site for subsequent functionalization of simple organic molecules, natural
compounds, and bioactive molecules (Figure 1).3-5 In my seminar, I will address our
efforts toward the divergent reactivity of gem-diborylakenes for synthetic diversity,
these include radical-mediated transformations, cycloaddition reactions, and
polymerization.3-6
