Dr. Yoram Tal Quantum Excellence Award Competition 2026
The 3rd Dr. Yoram Tal Quantum Excellence Award ceremony recently took place at the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry at the Technion. Organized by the Institute of Advanced Studies in Theoretical Chemistry and sponsored by the Hellen Diller Quantum Center, the event showcased outstanding multidisciplinary student projects at the forefront of quantum research.
The event was held in the presence of the Tal family (Varda and Ravit Tal), Head of the Quantum Center Prof. Yossi Avron, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry Prof. Efrat Lifshitz, and Head of the Institute Prof. Nimrod Moiseyev.
Key Presenters and Winners:
1st Prize Winner: Alexey Gorlach (Faculty of Electrical & Computer Engineering) for his research on revealing hidden structures in light, ultrafast phase singularity dynamics, and quantum-driven high-harmonic generation.
Participating Candidates:
Ohad Segal (Electrical & Computer Engineering) – Observed optical time-reflections using transparent conductive oxides.
Dr. Shachar Fite (Schulich Faculty of Chemistry) – Applied artificial intelligence methods to understand quantum phenomena in porphyrins.
Noam Levi-Hadari (Materials Science & Engineering) – Developed a reduced-cell formalism for efficient modeling of lattice-mismatched interfaces.
Sarit Feldman (Electrical & Computer Engineering) – Investigated polariton-exciton quantum condensate dynamics via the AC Stark effect.
The ceremony concluded with musical performances by pianist Oleg Yakirevich, singer Keren Hadar, and violinist Kobi Rubinshtein, celebrating both academic excellence and the synergy between physics, chemistry, and technology.
